Maryland Terps return to training with motor preferences

09/10/2022

Recently, over the course of several days, I was able to evaluate all the players on the University of Maryland Terps team.

The 2022 NCAA Big Ten Champions will have their motor profile available very soon.

The entire staff joined in the assessents, to understand the differences in each of their players.

I was able to take the opportunity to demonstrate the immediate loss or gain of coordination when respecting natural supports.

I was also able to demonstrate that the notion of "ground force" is not an absolute approach that suits all players, quite the contrary.

I am opening a small parenthesis about this:

''- Some coaches continue to instruct pitchers with a very Newtonian approach which consists in saying that power comes from a good anchoring of the feet, which will allow a rotation of the hips which will lead to a rotation of the torso and shoulders... In a mechanical and Newtonian reflection... It makes sense.

BUT we are living beings. And our movements do not depend on Newtonian forces but on motor preferences. Or in other words:''-how our body is self-programmed to be efficient, effective and energy saving'' to ensure its survival in its environment.

This implies that all pitchers' bodies are made to anchor themselves to the ground and have a large separation between the hip and shoulder line!

And that if you impose this gesture on pitchers who are not made for it, they will get hurt.''

Coming back to the Terps, the staff will have the player profiles soon. This will allow them to adapt the mechanics but also the conditioning, the mental approach and to individualize the coaching.

Last year's results give us hope for another great season!

Let's go Terps!
